Melissa Gruit Ale (7% abv)

Mystic Brewery (Chelsea, MA)

Melissa pours a soft, gold color that is slightly hazy with a thin but persistent head. The smell is quite lemony with some damp hay and yeast in it as well. The taste is very botanical with a lot of lemon in the finish. The label says it is made with juniper berries and lavender but it's hard to place them. It has a surprisingly light body, low carbonation, and has a dry finish. Overall this is definitely an interesting and drinkable gruit, perfect for a hot summer night.
