Jali - sour ale with apricots and jalapeños aged in tequila barrels (8.5% abv)

Hidden Cove Brewing (Wells, Maine)

Jali smells just as I hoped it would based on the description. It smells of sour apricots with lots of fresh cut jalapeños overlaying it. The taste caught me off guard a bit though. I was expecting it to be quite sour with a spicy afterbite, but it's more mellow, fruity, and funky. The tequila barrels and jalapeños come through a bit on the end as well making this a very, very interesting beer. I prefer the non-barrel aged version of Jali but this is still a beer worth checking out.

87/100
