Sierra Nevada Hoptimum

Picture
Sierra Nevada Hoptimum. Imperial IPA. Chico, CA 10.4% ABV.

Served chilled in a snifter. Pours a copper to amber color with practically no head. Smells of citrus peel, orange, lemon, grapefruit and some spices. Has a sweet and very hoppy smell. Medium carbonation that leaves a limited aftertaste. A strong rush of hops combined with the high alcohol percentage leaves a warming feeling at the finish.

Overall a very hoppy beer that rivals Palate Wrecker, Ruination and Maharaja for bitter Imperial IPAs. This one clocks in at 100 IBUs. The one word I would use to describe this one is boozy. This beer is characterized by a boozy smell, boozy mouthfeel, and a boozy aftertaste. Not a beer to enjoy on a hot summer day, but not a bad one for a cool, rainy spring evening.

I enjoyed this beer, but it comes in behind Palate Wrecker and Ruination. Would buy again, but not right away.

85/100
