Mystic Hazy Jane

Mystic Hazy Jane. Summer Saison/Farmhouse Ale. Chelsea, MA. 6% ABV.

Poured chilled from a 750 mL into pilsner glasses. The first two glasses poured a yellow golden color and the third a hazy, coppery light amber color with a hint of gold (a lot going on!) Poured a two finger white foam head that dissipates somewhat quickly. The smell is of wheat, spices, and citrus. The spices are tough to pinpoint. Definitely some pepper in there but there is much more going on. I do smell hints if fruits-apricots and grapefruit are detectable. The taste is a combination if sweet, spicy and funky. Carbonation is high with a medium body to it. Aftertaste is peppery and wheaty.

I paired this summer saison with a nice strip steak. It actually paired pretty well, and I'm glad I did that because I don't think I would have been crazy about it on its own. Still, it was another test subject in my saison experiment. (Still trying to figure out if I really like this style...I'll get back to you on that).

80/100
