Green Flash West Coast IPA. Green Flash Brewing Co. San Diego, California. American Double IPA (DIPA) 8.1% ABV. 95 IBUs.
Pours a relatively clear copper-amber color with a one finger white foam head. The smell is incredibly floral and hoppy, with citrus and pine in there as well. Carbonation and body are on the medium side. The taste is an incredible burst of hops, citrus and pine. It is a fascinating combination of bitterness from the hops, the citrus peel and fruity flavor, and some brown sugar and pine. Aftertaste is incredibly bitter, and it feels like you get wave after wave of bitter hops at the end. For over 8% ABV, this is unbelievably drinkable, as I detect little to no alcohol smell or taste.
All in all, this is an incredible DIPA, and I am not surprised it scores 100/100 on Beer Advocate. If I lived on the West Coast, I would keep my fridge stocked with this at all times! For $4/bottle, it is not a cheap option, but is still more inexpensive than buying a bomber of something that doesn't taste as good. Be on the lookout for 4 packs of this stuff. If you can get it for $10 or under, buy out the store! You will not be disappointed.
Just another reason why Green Flash is a favorite brewery of mine, and why I believe San Diego is the craft beer capital of the world (that post to come at another time!)
99/100
