Dogfishhead Punkin Ale. Milton, Delaware. Pumpkin ale. 7% ABV.
Now I know that this was not in the original 7 beers of pumpkin week, but I found this at my local store and had to include it early on in the fall review season. It is a perennial favorite of mine, and I wanted to make sure that my readers be exposed to it before it flies off the shelves! On to the review.
Pours a deep orange-amber color with a one finger white foam head. Smells are of pumpkin, allspice, brown sugar and nutmeg. Carbonation is moderate with a medium body. Taste is of pumpkin and brown sugar mostly, with a slight maltiness before finishing quite spicy.
This beer is a wonderful pumpkin beer. Many people do not realize that this is actually the first beer that Dogfish ever brewed, and that this put them on the map. Check out their show on Netflix Brew Masters. One of the five episodes features the making of the Punkin Ale.
