All of my regular readers know about my love of two things: Goose Island Bourbon County and Carmine Street Beers. Black Friday weekend every year means the release of Goose Island Bourbon County Brand Stout and all of the variants. This year, that includes Coffee, Vanilla, Barleywine, and the 2013 Backyard Rye with various berries added. I was lucky enough to be able to pick up a coffee and a Backyard Rye over at Carmine Street.
The coffee is a perennial favorite of mine, and I also had it on tap on Wednesday at One Mile House. It tasted like fresh espresso was thrown into a BCBS. The Vanilla Rye was sweet but not overwhelming, and the Backyard Rye was sweet and tart with spiciness from the rye.
I picked up a bomber of the Backyard Rye at Carmine's as well as a coffee, and plan on having the coffee very soon. It is best fresh, and though it ages well, from my experience the coffee tends to mellow out after a while. The Backyard Rye is already one year old, and I plan on holding for an additional year or two. I have had it fresh and can say it is also delicious right away.
If you have the opportunity to go down to Carmine's, I would highly recommend doing so. Shane has done a wonderful job with the recent selections, and they have the Guinness 1759, BCBS and the variants, as well as some of the new Founder's bombers. I also picked up a Stone Enjoy-By 12-26-14 and an Evil Twin Imperial Biscotti Break Natale with a Cherry on Top. Many sought after beers at good prices with an incredibly knowledgable staff.
Check out some pictures below of the recent event at Carmines, as well as my total haul from Bourbon County Weekend!
Cheers!
Scott
