2013 Goose Island Bourbon County Brand Stout. Imperial Stout aged in Bourbon Barrels. Chicago, IL. 14.9% ABV.
Served chilled from a 12 oz bottle and poured into a snifter. Pours a dark black color with no head. Smells are of bourbon, chocolate, coffee and molasses. Carbonation is light with a very full body. The consistency is almost syrupy. Taste is of coffee, chocolate, bourbon, molasses, dark fruits and lots of alcohol. The finish is bourbon, and is quite intense.
I was shocked when I found out I had not reviewed this one. I have reviewed the Barleywine, Coffee and Backyard Rye but not this! The 2014 edition of all of the Bourbon County beers will be released on Black Friday. I plan on hitting all of the craft beer stores that day! This 2013 was amazing, and after a year it only got better. I have another 12 bottles that I plan on aging for a few years, and want to do vertical tastings each year. I will probably pick up another 10-15 of the 2014 editions, but hope to get some coffee, vanilla and other variations if possible.
There is a reason this is a top 15 ranked beer in the world.
