Bear Republic Apex Special IPA

Picture
Bear Republic Apex DIPA. American Double IPA. Healdsburg, CA 8.95% ABV.

Served chilled in a snifter. Pours a beautifully clear amber color with a two finger foam head. A very citrusy and floral aroma, with hints of grapefruit, orange and pineapple. The head is almost creamy tasting, and retained its thickness and flavor the whole way down. The carbonation is moderate with a medium body. The citrus flavors are strong, and the grapefruit and pineapple lead the way. The aftertaste is sweet. Overall a wonderful DIPA that I cannot wait to try again.

Bear Republic is yet another phenomenal California craft brewery. Contrary to other reviews, this one isn't from the San Diego area, but Sonoma County. Their beers are not terribly hard to find, and if you get the chance, check out their Racer 5, 10 or 15, Red Rocket Ale, or this Apex. A big thanks to Tyler for finding this down on Cape Cod and lugging it back to NYC.

This one ties for my third favorite DIPA with Firestone Walker's Double Jack.
