While on the trip to Minnesota, I also had the chance to check out the Bauhaus Brew Labs brewery and taproom. Their facilities are located in Minneapolis, well off the main roads. It reminded me of Singlecut out in Astoria, Queens, as it is in an industrial park somewhat in the middle of nowhere. We were able to watch the Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroad pass us by with oil deliveries from North Dakota while sipping on some "German inspired beer styles."
Check out their mission statement:
"Bauhaus Brew Labs is a family of musicians, scientists, artists and above all, beer lovers, aiming to reinvigorate the spirit of the family brewery. At Bauhaus, we take a unique look at classic German-inspired beer styles, skewed slightly by a sense of play and adventure. Our flavor-forward, sessionable beers are crafted to surprise and delight without taxing the palate."
I really enjoyed the American take on many classic Germany style beers. The West Coast style Lager I had was quite good, and the smell could easily have been a traditional German Beer. However, the hop profile and citrusy and piney flavor made this a unique drinking experience. The Schwarzbier was quite good as well. If you have the chance to go to the Twin Cities, be sure to make this a stop.
Cheers!
Scott
